Charles-Edouard Jeanneret, better known as Le Corbusier was a Swiss-born French architect, designer, urbanist, writer and painter, famous for being one of the pioneers of what now is called modern architecture. Not unlike many of the designers featured, did not get his start as a furniture designer. He was an acclaimed, prize winning watch smith in Switzerland. That is until he became Le Corbusier, a central figure in modern architecture and design. In the early 1900s he apprenticed at the Behrens Studios in Berlin (As did Mies van der Rohe and famed architect Walter Gropius.)

Le Corbusier quickly became known as an Architect who helps pioneer the “open plan” concept with his innovative use of materials and engineering. Through the 1920s and 30s Le Corbusier continued to enforce the importance of the incorporation of architecture as a vital part of life and positioned himself as a leader in the architectural design revolution. It was in the transition between these decades that he began designing furniture to compliment his living spaces. Working with Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand on his furniture creations they created some of the most famously comfortable pieces and highly sought after pieces in modern design, forever cementing Le Corbusier into design history.

Steel Frames & Seat Suspension Systems

The frame is the structural beginning of any quality furniture piece. Most of our exposed metal frame designs are constructed of the highest furniture grade stainless steel. We use stainless steel because it offers a lifetime of value to our customers. It will not tarnish and it has an inherent quality of aging to an elegant and classic soft patina character. Stainless steel may be re-polished many times to restore the metal appearance to its original "new" appearance. Chrome steel-plated frames do not offer these unique and superior qualities.

Our product engineers have developed a proprietary seat platform support system that is unique to many of our seating products. With advanced modern technologies in webbing support structure materials now available, we have developed a superior seat support system that supersedes the neo-modern nylon strap support systems and the "eight-way hand-tied spring systems". Unlike these old technology furniture methods of seat support that have tendencies to wear and sag, our system offers superior time and wear seat support.
